President Donald Trump cranked up the throttle on Harley-Davidson on Thursday, scolding the motorcycle maker for announcing a production move overseas — telling the company: "Don't get cute with us."

At a groundbreaking in Wisconsin for Taiwan electronics giant Foxconn's new factory, Trump again hammered Harley-Davidson for saying it would move some manufacturing to Thailand to dodge tariffs on bikes sold in the European Union, Politico reported.

The tariffs were imposed after Trump hiked steel and aluminum tariffs on European countries and others.

"Harley Davidson, please build those beautiful motorcycles in the USA, please, OK? Don't get cute with us," he said, Politico reported. "Don't get cute. They don't realize their taxes are coming way down, they don't realize that yet.

"Build them in the USA, your customers won't be happy if you don't," he said.

Trump had nicer words for the Wisconsin-based company in February, calling Harley-Davidson "a true American icon" at a White House event, Politico reported, noting the biker company already had factories in Australia, India, and Brazil.
