What a difference a strong economy, low unemployment and rising wages can make.
Such hard economic facts can even de-bunk the most pessimistic economic forecasts issued before Donald Trump moved into the Oval Office.
“The latest unemployment report has joblessness at 3.6%. Where is the Trump Armageddon Squad now?” Fox Business Network's Charles Gasparino asked in a New York Post column.
“What’s even more egregious is that the same folks predicting the end of the world refuse to provide sane analysis of radical proposals dribbling out of the mouths of the Democrats. They report on Medicare-for-All, the Green New Deal and college debt forgiveness as if these cockamamie ideas will have no impact on the economy,” Gasparino wrote.
“Cutting taxes on individuals and businesses often propels economic growth because people — not inefficient governments — make the best decisions about where to allocate capital. And I said as much on these pages both before and after Trump’s presidency,” Gasparino wrote.
For his part, the president turned to social media to tout his economic accomplishments.
Trump railed Monday against calls from Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, for his impeachment, saying that Democrats can't win the election fairly and that a president can't be impeached for creating "the best economy in our country's history."
“'Democrat Texas Congressman Al Green says impeachment is the only thing that can prevent President Trump from re-election in 2020,'" he tweeted early Monday.
"In other words, Dems can’t win the election fairly. You can’t impeach a president for creating the best economy in our country’s history. Also, there are “'No High Crimes & Misdemeanors,'" he continued. "No Collusion, No Conspiracy, No Obstruction. ALL THE CRIMES ARE ON THE OTHER SIDE, and that’s what the Dems should be looking at, but they won’t. Nevertheless, the tables are turning!"
In a separate tweet, Trump defended his economic record.
"Despite the tremendous success that I have had as President, including perhaps the greatest ECONOMY and most successful first two years of any President in history, they have stolen two years of my (our) Presidency (Collusion Delusion) that we will never be able to get back....." Trump wrote.
Over the weekend, Green once again called for Trump's impeachment, telling MSNBC that Congress has a "duty" to take action, and if it doesn't, Trump will be reelected.
"He will say the Democrats had an overwhelming majority in the House and they didn't take up impeachment," said Green. "He will say that we had a constitutional duty to do it if it was there, and we didn't. He will say he's been vindicated."
