Facebook's reputation plummeted 43 spots in a ranking of 100 companies, indicating the public trusts the social media giant less and less.

The 2019 Corporate Reputation Rankings, put together by The Axios/Harris Poll 100, showed Facebook was ranked No. 94 — down from the 51st spot in 2018.

Facebook's plunge of nearly 50 companies was the largest decline of the entire study.

Facebook has been plagued by scandals in recent years related to data privacy and election interference. Earlier Wednesday, the company announced plans to make all private messages between Facebook users encrypted and private.

The second-biggest drop on the poll was Tesla, which fell from the third spot down to the 42nd spot. McDonald's went from 59th to 88th.

Samsung (35th to seventh), Sony (31st to 10th), and 21st Century Fox (74th to 53rd) were the top improving companies.

Grocery store chain Wegmans found itself in the No. 1 spot on the poll after moving up from second in 2018. Amazon was No. 2, followed by Patagonia, L.L. Bean, and Walt Disney.
