Allan Lichtman, the American University professor who predicted a Donald Trump win, now expects the real-estate billionaire to be impeached.

Lichtman, a political historian at the American University, told CNBC that Trump's history of playing "fast and loose with the law," his unpredictability as well as lack of public service experience could lead to an impeachment.

The professor, who has correctly predicted presidential poll outcomes for the last 30 years, added that his latest prediction is based on a 'gut feeling' rather than the scientific methods he employed in predicting Trump's election victory.

Earlier this week, Trump launched into a series of early morning tweets slamming The New York Times for a front page news story portraying his transition period as being in disarray after New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was dismissed from his post directing the transition team in favor of Vice President-elect Mike Pence.

Trump also faced backlash when he appointed Steve Bannon, the former president of Breitbart News, as his chief strategist and senior counselor.

"Trump is a wild card," Lichtman said.

Trump's appointment of controversial figures like Bannon and his unpredictability could make it more difficult for the Republicans to work with Democrats and other members of the Congress, he said.

"Republicans love control and they would love to see Mike Pence as president because he is predictable and controllable - a down-the-pipe standard conservative Republican."

For their part, those in the Trump camp caution that you can't always trust what academics say or write.

Newsmax Finance Insider and Trump adviser Stephen Moore seeks to prove that point by reminding us:

"The Democrats and their gang of pundits assure us that 4 percent growth cannot and will not happen under President-elect Trump. But let's not forget: These are the same geniuses who have assured us for the last year that there would never be a President Trump. Wrong again," Moore wrote for Newsmax Finance.

"Trump will also bring an America-first, pro-business approach to economic policy. Having someone in the White House who knows how to run a business and meet a payroll has to be a psychological lift for this battered and bruised economy."
