A conservative coalition led by the Media Research Center (MRC) is calling on tech companies to clarify their policies so that conservative voices can be protected.

The MRC formed the Conservatives Against Online Censorship coalition, which has asked Google, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to address four areas of concern: transparency, hate speech, giving conservative groups equal footing, and the First Amendment.

"While some progress has been made, our coalition and the conservative movement need to see a tangible commitment to change from all of these tech companies," MRC president Brent Bozell said. "We are calling on Google, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to lay out the steps they plan to take to ensure their platforms are a place for conservatives and liberals alike.

"If Google, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube want to earn back the trust of the American people, they need to show us they are serious about eliminating bias and tackling the concerns expressed by the conservative movement."

Social media and other tech companies have come under fire in recent years for what conservatives say is a bias against right-leaning political views. Facebook even admitted in 2016 to censoring some conservative news in its trending topics section, which it has since dismissed from its platform.

The MRC is looking for a pledge from the aforementioned companies that they will treat voices from all political walks of life the same.

"It is not enough to simply say you will do it," Bozell said. "We need to know how you will get it done."
