One of the deciding factors in Amazon's search for its second headquarters could be gay rights, according to a new report.

The Washington Post, which is owned by Amazon CEO and founder Jeff Bezos, took a deep look at Amazon's search and concluded that Bezos may be factoring in state and local politics as he seeks another office location for his online giant.

The Post reported that Amazon officials have asked potential host cities about their "compatible cultural and community environment." In North Carolina and Georgia, Amazon officials have asked questions about and even expressed concern with proposed legislation that Democrats feel are anti-gay.

Bezos has donated to gay causes in the past and has turned into somewhat of a political figure in the tech industry. President Donald Trump often criticizes Bezos and Amazon for the company's contract with the Postal Service and over the issue of sales tax for online purchases.

Some have suggested, however, that Trump's attacks are geared more at Bezos himself because he owns the Post — a charge the administration denies.

Anthony Little, the president of GLAmazon, the company's LGBTQ affinity group, told the Post he believes gay rights will be a factor in Bezos' decision.

"Ultimately, I think Amazon wants us to do what is right for LGBTQ employees," Little said.

A report this week suggested that either Boston or the Washington, D.C., area could win the bid process to host Amazon's new office. Both metro areas are Democratic.
