'Tis the Season to Give Thanks

By    |   Monday, 20 December 2010 10:06 AM

I love the Christmas season. It’s a great time for giving and showing your appreciation and love for others. However, it’s also a great time to give thanks.

So with my friends that read my blog so diligently, I wanted to share with you what I’m thankful for.

As many of you know, I grew up poor. We lived in a town of 16,000 (that is now 13,000) in southern Arkansas. We didn’t have much.

I remember growing up in a house that probably cost $20,000. I remember when I walked from my bed to my closet it was both “up and down hill.” The floor was so warped that I literally walked uphill to my closet. The door was cut off at the bottom to accommodate the hump in the floor.

My bathroom was an “add on” that didn’t have heat in it, except for an added kerosene heater later on.

I lived in a town where many people just graduated from high school and went to work at the local plants once they graduated. So many of my friends went to work at the local paper mill while others became over-the-road truck drivers.

There was something inside of me that wanted more for my life. There would have been nothing wrong with doing any one of those jobs had my heart’s desire been to work at the paper mill or be a truck driver. There’s nothing wrong with those professions and they are all needed for our society to work.

However, thankfully, I found out what my passion was early on in life. Actually, I have two … a passion for God and a passion for learning about personal finance and financial markets.

I’m thankful that a woman in the Orlando HR office of Charles Schwab took a chance amd made me her first “new hire” that didn’t have a college degree. Thankfully, she wasn’t disappointed. I made it to management in about three years.

I’m thankful that I learned how to “crack the code” of personal finance and learn the “laws of money.” You see, many people are playing their “financial game of life” without knowing the rules of the game.

I’m thankful that I learned about the currency market and macroeconomics.

I’m thankful for some mentors in the financial markets, A.J. Monte and Bill Johnson.

I’m thankful for the godly men of God that I’ve had as mentors through their books such as John Maxwell, Mike Murdock, Keith Craft, Gene Lingerfelt, etc. Sitting at the feet of these men, through their books, videos and church services has really inspired me, given me vision and caused me to be a very big dreamer. It’s helped me more in family and in business than I’d ever imagined. Never short change the investment that you can get out of a good church.

I’m thankful for my wife that is as faithful to me just as God is. I’m thankful that I have four wonderful kids (Brittany, Seth, Shane and Zachary) that have largely listened to their parents and have great futures ahead of them.

I’m thankful that I learned early on the value of true spirituality and financial responsibility. Those two pillars have served and blessed my life in so many ways.

I’m thankful that I’ve gotten to travel all over the world and teach people about the currency market so that they can get some of their money out of the ailing U.S. dollar.

I’m thankful to the thousands of Money Matrix Insider subscribers that I have. I’m thankful they’ve allowed me to impart into their lives and that they’ve allowed me to do what I love the most.

I’m thankful that I get to share my knowledge so that it has a “ripple effect” around the globe. That way, one day when I’m in heaven, my life will have counted for something other than selfish gain.

I’m thankful for the blessing of God on my life, which means more to me than anything. I can have most anything in life taken away from me and bear it … I just can’t go a day without God’s counsel and favor. That has opened more doors for me that I’d never been able to open on my own.

I’m thankful that I’ve gotten to meet billionaires like Steve Forbes and influential political commentators like Dick Morris. I’m thankful for great men in my life like Wayne Allyn Root, vice presidential candidate of the Libertarian party. And I’m thankful for all that former congressman Bob Bauman has poured into me.

I’m thankful for Christopher Ruddy … one of the most influential men in modern-day politics. And I’m thankful for Aaron DeHoog, the Financial Publisher, for the great friend he’s been. I never take it lightly.

You see, it’s an honor to be in the company of great men and women. It blesses me far more than it blesses them. I learn so much from their lives, their stories they share with me, etc.

So in this season, I just wanted to share my heart and let you know what I was thankful for. It’s the right kind of wisdom and knowledge … and the right acquaintances and friends that God has brought down my path.

They are more precious to me than diamonds or gold.

One wise man once said: "Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future." It’s true.

Possessions can’t impart knowledge to me that can change my tomorrow … but these that I’ve mentioned above have done just that and I’m very thankful for it.

Lastly, I’d like to thank God for guiding my steps and preparing my future. It’s been better than I’d ever imagined or would have even given myself. He’s truly given me more than I deserve … and for that I’m grateful.

So in this season, be sure to take some time to reflect back upon the year and upon your life … and tell those around you how thankful you are for them and what a gift they’ve been to your life.

That will be the best present you could ever give them.
