5 Ways to Reinvent Yourself During Turbulent Periods

The world is full of ups and downs. Life is rosy when things are turning out the way you wished, but more likely, you will face challenges that can be frustrating.

Difficulties can include a business struggles, job loss, strained personal relationships, major illness or the loss of a loved one.

These trying periods can lead to feelings of hopelessness or that life is without purpose or meaning. Studies have shown that emotions influence our memory in profound ways. The more emotional the situation, the more likely we are to remember it.

How can we brace ourselves for serious business challenges that can throw us off balance? Here are five ways you can re-invent yourself to overcome turbulent periods:

  1. Stay Calm and Think Positively

Calmness in the face of adversity is a characteristic of a strong personality. Bad situations will always make us sorrowful and weak. You can be tensed up and frustrated when the whole world is collapsing around you.

The starting point of staying calm under pressure is for you to refuse to react automatically and unthinkingly. Instead, take a deep breath to calm your mind and then think carefully about your next words and actions.

This can be challenging because humans are most often driven by emotions and feelings. But if you’re able to stay calm, you will avoid the consequences of acting on impulse.

  1. Build Relationships With Others

You need to be around people when you are going through difficult times -- caring, positive-minded people who can console you. People usually confide with anyone they see about their predicaments. This is wrong -- 99 percent of people will tell you that your worries wouldn’t even help you. Some may be excited about it while others would care less.

Networking and building friendships can re-invent you. I've always taken networking for granted until recently and I'm amazed at the things I have learnt and the opportunities that I've been exposed to. Research shows that people who enjoyed strong social ties had a 50 percent increased likelihood of survival compared to people with little or no social ties.

  1. Get Busy and Be Productive

Idealness fuels bad situations to become worse. The more you’re idle, the more you think about your worries and become more sorrowful. On the contrary, if you’re busy doing something positive, the tendency that you will minimize the devastating effect of your misery.

Take for instance, enrolling in an online course where you can learn new things. There are countless websites readily available for you to acquire valuable skills and knowledge for free or with little fees.

By availing yourself of this opportunity, you will certainly get busy and be productive hence forgetting your worries.

  1. Look Elegant and Spend Wisely

Instead of showing the world that you are in deep mess by becoming discouraged and depressed, you should surprise everyone by your looks; the way you carry yourself. Beam with boldness.

No one wants to associate with a failure. Your appearance is crucial during trial periods. Care less about what people think and say about you. Be calm, shave properly and dress nicely to attract people who will add significant value to your life. The world judges you by your looks.

Align your personal expenses with your present circumstances. It’s usually difficult for some people to adjust their lifestyles when there is a downturn in their businesses/careers. Don’t buy stuffs that are way above your financial power. The way you manage your little finance during turbulent times will either make you to surmount obstacles or totally collapse.

  1. Read Motivating Books

There is no problem that is new on earth. Some people have gone through what you are currently facing today. Hence, you can actually know how they were able to overcome their predicament.

There are thousands of books that can significantly assist you in whatever situation you’re into. Be it business failure, relationship issue, depression, addiction or bad habits.  This can lift your spirit and spur you to overcome your present situation.
