Entrepreneurs are energetic and busy individuals. Work starts early in the morning and continues way into the late hours of the night. Business is a top priority as long as entrepreneurs are concern.

This is why many small business owners care more on the imperativeness of a working capital to their health and wellbeing.

However, as important as the success of your business is to you, when your health deteriorates, your business will be adversely affected.

Here are 5 healthy hacks that will help you deal with your busy business schedules.

  1. Schedule Time to Exercise

Regular physical activity, most particularly early morning exercise, boosts your productivity. Contrary to what many people think exercise doesn't make you tired, but it actually gives you more energy. According to a study conducted by the University of Georgia, a 20-minute workout is powerful enough to decrease fatigue by 65 percent.

Aside from increased productivity, exercise helps to keep stress levels low. It does this by making the brain less receptive to stress. Study by LA Peer Health Systems shows that daily physical activity can actually help reduce many digestive problems and help with digestion. Stress, on the other hand, can have a negative effect on your digestion. This is because the “fight or flight” response that results from stress reduces blood flow to the abdomen and the production of digestive enzymes. This slows the digestive process, which results in heartburn, and constipation.

Clear out your schedule and just like every important meeting, set workout time as one of the items on your schedule. When you make exercise as important as meeting with a client, there's no way you'll miss out on the benefits regular training has to offer.

  1. Get Adequate Sleep

I'm sure you're familiar with the norm that entrepreneurs work late into the night and wake up very early in the morning. At first, it looks like a good plan to have more work done, but this becomes harder to sustain in the long run. If you are someone who works round the clock, then your health is a risk.

Fatigue, lack of concentration and low productivity are just some of the many negative effects bad sleeping patterns may have on you and your business. For example, a study conducted by Uppsala University revealed that sleep deprivation causes memory loss and increases stress levels. This can adversely affect business performance.

Get your body ready for sleep by staying away from your phone or computer at least an hour before sleeping. Alternatively, try reading a fiction book. This will give your mind a chance to relax and put you in the mood for sleeping.

Give yourself at least 7 to 8 hours of sleep daily. Adjust your schedule where you have to. Stay away from caffeinated drinks like coffee before going to sleep.

  1. Quit Smoking and Reduce Alcohol Consumption

People turn to cigarettes and alcohol for many reasons. Usually, unhealthy habits like smoking and excess drinking start off as a form of recreation or means to unwind but end up becoming part of everyday life and hard to quit. More often than not, these bad habits affect your health. Once your health is at risk, your business goes along with it.

How does this kind of consumption affect your health as an entrepreneur? Its use can potentially increase the risk of developing different types of cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and emphysema. Smoking gradually destroys the lining of a person’s arteries and this in itself creates a whole new lot of other health problems. Most of these degradations of organs in the body may end up causing a heart attack or may end in stroke.

Being addicted to nicotine decreases your productivity. Although nicotine is a stimulant, people who are addicted to nicotine have stopped experiencing its stimulating effects because they have developed tolerance. Unfortunately, smokers are less able to concentrate than e-smokers or non-smokers because as soon as they can focus, they have to interrupt their flow to smoke.

If you quit smoking, it will give you more mental clarity and energy to boost your performance that will in turn, and skyrocket your business. There are ways to stop smoking. According to Smoking Cessation Formula, if you want to quit smoking easily, you need to deal with the desires that propel you to go for a smoke and do that before you quit. The urge to smoke is mental as well as physical, and someone needs to deal with both aspects.

If drinking alcohol and smoking is something you do often then it's time to reduce your consumption. But most importantly work on dealing with what triggers the urge to consume cigarettes and alcohol.

  1. Always Stay Hydrated

Have you ever been bogged down with work and meetings that you forget to drink water? That's probably why you're feeling tired, hungry and lethargic. Dehydration reduces cognitive function and concentration - the two things you need to deliver excellent work. Studies show that mild dehydration might affect one's productivity. If mild dehydration has such effect imagine how fatal it is going hours without water would be to your business. Always carry a bottle of water with you. Make it a goal to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.

  1. Plan to Eat Healthy and Nutritious Meals

Eating the right kind of food can go a long way to improving your productivity. As an entrepreneur, a lot is demanded of you, so you need to make sure you fuel your body with the right kind of food.

Make it a habit of eating leafy vegetables and fruits. Take supplements to help you feel more energized and motivated to achieve your health and business goals.
