Taxpayers who don't normally file tax returns can access a new tool on the IRS website to find out when their $1,200 stimulus payments will arrive, according to IRS.gov.
Users can visit the IRS website and go to the section marked: “Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info” to enter their personal information. The tool is offered as a part of the IRS' Free File Alliance.
“People who don’t have a return filing obligation can use this tool to give us basic information so they can receive their Economic Impact Payments as soon as possible,” IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig told Forbes.
“The IRS and Free File Alliance have been working around the clock to deliver this new tool to help people.”
The tool is for users who weren't required to file a return in 2018 or 2019 because their earnings fell below a certain income threshold. This includes single filers who earned less than $12,200 and married couples who earned less than $24,4000 in 2019.
Anyone who receives veterans' disability compensation, pension or survivor benefits from the Department of Veterans Affairs, and didn't file a tax return for 2018 or 2019 are also eligible to use this tool.
Also, those who receive Social Security benefits and who are Railroad Retirement beneficiaries can use the tool.
The IRS is also developing another tool called "Get My Payment," which will show the date a user's payment is scheduled to be deposited in their bank account or when their check will be mailed.
