Bon voyage!

As U.S. consumer confidence rises to the highest in almost 17 years, a lot of people are deciding it’s time to take a breather from work. A record number of Americans are planning a vacation within the next six months, according to the most recent data from the New York-based Conference Board.

You can now safely assume that almost two-thirds of your co-workers are spending a least part of their day planning or fantasizing about a voyage to somewhere else over the next half-a-year.

The percentage of people intending to take a getaway is the highest since the survey began in 1978, and the increase last month is the biggest since December 2010.

The news comes as U.S. markets continue to hit new highs, the unemployment rate sits at the lowest since 2001 and average wages show signs of picking up.

“Overall confidence is certainly robust,” Peter Boockvar, the chief market analyst at the Lindsey Group, said in a note to clients. Still, “this data only is a snapshot and is rarely a good indicator to tell us what is to come.”

Though margaritas seem a safe bet.
