In an exclusive interview with LIGNET, Ambassador Terry Miller, director of the Center for International Trade and Economics at the Heritage Foundation, said his organization’s “2013 Index of Economic Freedom” points to trouble on the horizon for economic freedom in many countries, including India and China. He was particularly concerned, however, about economic freedom in the United States, which has taken a big hit. The United States has dropped from #4 to #10 in the Heritage Foundation’s rankings, getting effectively knocked off the list of the top ten countries whose citizens enjoy the most economic freedom.The steep increase in government spending under President Barack Obama is partly to blame, says Ambassador Miller. But five other actions of the U.S. government have also contributed to the dramatic change in the country's status.
