GDP is up three percent. The stock market is at record levels. Unemployment is at 4.4 percent - its lowest level is many years.

Why are our people not celebrating?

They would if they knew about it.

But the main stream media barely acknowledges these impressive economic gains. It’s not fake news. To them, it’s “non-news.”

Instead, mainstream media, especially network news, can’t resist the “bright shiny object” connected with Russia, or the NFL.

In fact, a new study from the Media Research Center shows just how obsessed network news is with the ongoing Russia investigation.

Fox News reported that the study looked at every ABC, CBS and NBC evening newscast from the appointment of special counsel Robert Mueller on May 17 to June 20.

“It found a whopping 353 minutes of airtime devoted to the Russia probe. Meantime, the networks only spent 47 minutes on climate change, 29 on fighting terrorism, 17 on repealing and replacing ObamaCare and a mere five minutes on the economy and jobs.”

On the other hand, for the third week of January in 2009, Pew Research found that 57% of Americans said they followed news about the condition of the U.S. economy very closely, the highest percentage following any story that closely all year.

So should we infer that today’s consumers are less interested in economic news? Of course not. But it’s hard to raise awareness of the economy if there is no news being disseminated about it.

Newsbusters.com did a study of network news coverage from May 17 to June 20, 2017. They found that ABC’s World News Tonight was the most enraptured by the Russia story, devoting 134 minutes to the investigation, or nearly two-thirds (63%) of all of its Trump news during this period. The CBS Evening News churned out 124 minutes of Russia news (54% of its Trump coverage), while NBC Nightly News spent a total of 95 minutes talking about the investigation (48% of its overall Trump coverage).

During that time, the three networks devoted a measly five minutes to the economy and jobs. Five minutes during an entire month? Every American should be outraged.

Fortune magazine writes: “Does President Trump deserve some credit? Yes, of course. Presidents usually get more credit – and blame – for the economy than they deserve. But Trump’s election clearly stirred animal spirits, helping drive the stock market to its record highs. And his campaign to roll back regulation certainly calmed business leaders, whose concerns over rising regulation was reaching fever pitch prior to the election.”

When I Googled “Why doesn't trump get credit for the recovering economy?” the first 10 stories concluded that Trump shouldn’t get any of the credit. If that’s the case, why did the economy start to expand after Trump was elected?

Donald Trump recently told reporters: “We’re setting economic records, and we’re very proud of it. We’re unleashing a new era of American prosperity, perhaps like we’ve never seen before. I think the media’s actually going to be forced to cover it pretty soon.”

Is it only me that finds it disturbing that a President of the United States has to prod media to do their jobs and include the economy in their news coverage?

Media isn’t telling the story about the way the economy is being perceived by the people in the trenches that make the economy work. Three quarters of CNBC's Global CEO Council poll say President Donald Trump deserves some of the credit for the stock market's record run in 2017; with 17.1% saying he deserves "most of the credit.”

These leaders don’t need to rely on filtered news. They can see how their businesses benefit from a renewed economy.

These are the Americans who are hiring. These are the Americans who are reinvesting in their business. In short, these are the Americans fueling our economy.

And for people who are looking for jobs? The odds have become much better for people finding work. Nearly twice as many people are quitting jobs as are being laid off or fired -- a sign of a strong labor market.

President Trump has helped create more than one million private sector jobs since taking office.

One million private sector jobs and the networks can only devote 5 minutes to the economy and jobs? Shameful. Don’t you think that people looking for jobs would want to hear about the economy and their opportunity for employment?

The number of employed women rose by 475,000 between February 2017 and March 2017. That’s bigger than all but one month-over-month increase for the eight years Obama was President. It is certainly worthwhile news to me and something to feel good about.

This is precisely why network news are losing viewers and millions of people are turning to alternative news organizations. The mainstream media’s intense hatred of Trump prevents any coverage of positive stories. It is as if they are rooting against the average American looking for hope and a new job.

I’m not a news executive, but I have to believe that if viewers knew that I was taking about jobs every night while providing honest information meant to help and educate them, viewership would increase. I’m hoping that more TV executives begin to understand this.

Our nation deserves it.
