1. Augusta, Georgia, has average housing costs of around $1,000 for homeowners with a mortgage. Seniors who own debt-free homes can spend under $400 a month on housing and renters can find nice places for under $700, according to U.S. News and World Report. There is no state income tax in Florida and property taxes on average are below $2,000 for homeowners. Median home prices are below the national average.

7. San Antonio, Texas, offers home prices below the national average, MarketWatch noted. The cost of living is also low. With no state income tax and a thriving economy, the city has plenty of activities for seniors and others who live in the warm climate of San Antonio. The Alamo is among its prized historic sites, but there is also entertainment from nearby theme parks.
