There is a double standard in the media when it comes to liberals attacking black conservatives and vice versa, Fox News contributor Bernie Goldberg said Thursday on
“The O’Reilly Factor.”
Goldberg blasted The New York Times’s Andrew Rosenthal for accusing conservatives of harboring a “racist undertone” that can be seen in the “level of disrespect [for President Barack Obama] that would be unthinkable were he not an African American.”
He pointed to several instances that provoked the accusation from Rosenthal and his peers, including when Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich called President Barack Obama a “food stamp president” and when Republican Rep. Joe Wilson shouted “You lie!” during Obama’s State of the Union address.
“As this campaign heads to the finish line in November, any Republican who criticizes Barack Obama … there’s a good chance that at some point, members of the so-called mainstream media will label that Republican as a racist,” said Goldberg. “They can call people who criticize Barack Obama racist, but liberals in the media can attack any black conservative.
“A whole lot of liberals in the media think that hatred and bigotry is in the DNA of conservatives.”
Host Bill O’Reilly disagreed with Goldberg’s assertion that liberal journalists actually believe their own accusations of racism. O’Reilly said that such accusations amount to a “calculated play” by the liberal media to rally minority groups against conservative candidates.
