Barron’s recently examined the five companies with the worst-performing stocks in the S&P 500 this year through the first half.

“These stocks have been down in the dumps even as the benchmark index has gained 16.5% through June, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 13.9% and the Nasdaq Composite added 20.1%,” Barron’s explained.

Here is Barron’s handful of worst-performing shares:

  • Nordstrom stock (JWN) fell nearly 33% through June. Nordstrom has been slipping since the beginning of the year and took a hefty blow in late May as the trade-tariff war escalated between China and the U.S.
  • Mylan stock (MYL) dropped about 32% in the first half. Mylan’s earnings reports have disappointed investors this year amid the company’s alleged involvement in what may be the largest price-fixing scheme among drug-makers in U.S. history. The drugmaker has disputed the allegations.
  • Gap stock (GPS) stock has plunged about 31% amid dismal earnings and the China tariff war, which has hit many retailers.
  • Macy’s stock (M) fell 31%, being among the hardest hit retailers in the industry’s e-commerce shake-up.
  • Kohl’s stock (KSS) is down about 30% this year as lower-than-expected first-quarter earnings sent the shares off a cliff in May.

Meanwhile, a majority of Wall Street pros in a CNBC survey say their overall market view remains optimistic, and more than 65% say they believe equities are correctly valued.

More than half of respondents to the “Halftime Report Stock Survey” say they believe the Federal Reserve should cut interest rates at its next meeting at the end of this month, CNBC explained.

Half of respondents say they expect Q2 earnings to top expectations, and 65% say the United States is still the best place to invest. Tech, financials and health care are top sector picks.
