The numbers of Americans without jobs have dramatically dropped across the United States with 14 states setting new records for low unemployment last year, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports.

And in March alone, eight states hit new record lows:

  • Hawaii — 2.1 percent
  • Maine — 2.7 percent
  • Idaho — 2.9 percent
  • Wisconsin — 2.9 percent
  • Kentucky — 4.0 percent
  • California — 41 percent
  • Oregon — 4.1 percent
  • Mississippi — 4.5 percent

The largest job gains occurred in California (+321,000), Texas (+294,100), and Florida (+173,100). The largest percentage gains occurred in Idaho and Utah (+3.3 percent each), followed by Nevada (+2.9 percent), according to the agency.

The national unemployment rate was unchanged from February at 4.1 percent, but was 0.4 percentage point lower than in March 2017.
