Kudlow: Obama Wrong to Take Credit for Trump Economy

By    |   Tuesday, 23 October 2018 10:00 AM

Former President Barack Obama is wrong to take credit for the economic gains made under President Donald Trump's time in office, White House National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow said Tuesday.

"I don't think he is right, with all respect to former President Obama," Kudlow told Fox News' "Fox and Friends."

"Under his stewardship the so-called recovery was, I don't know, 2 percent average per year, which is really the worst since the, I believe since the Depression. And, already, we have beaten our critics, including Obama's staff people. We're running an economy three to four percent economic growth."

During a speech in Las Vegas Monday, Obama urged listeners to "remember who started it" when they hear about the economy improving, reports Real Clear Politics.

However, Kudlow said that Trump is a "tax cutter," but Obama was a "tax hiker."

"President Trump rolled back onerous regulations and what you're seeing now is a tremendous increase in men and women who own and operate their own small businesses," said Kudlow. "I don't want to get tied up in personal attacks. Just saying, almost from the day of the election, consumer sentiment and small business confidence has soared. It had been falling."

Kudlow said a new round of tax cuts promised by Trump is in the planning stage, but the first round benefited the middle class.

"Their tax liabilities are down about $2,000 for a family of four," he said. "We also have wage increases, a family of four, probably $4,000. Maybe higher, over a period of time, in wage increases. So, the president would like to go for more."
