Noting "trade retaliation by foreign nations," President Donald Trump on Monday said he has authorized a second round of aid for U.S. farmers, The Hill reports.

"[Monday] I am making good on my promise to defend our Farmers & Ranchers from unjustified trade retaliation by foreign nations," Trump tweeted. "I have authorized Secretary Perdue to implement the 2nd round of Market Facilitation Payments. Our economy is stronger than ever – we stand with our Farmers!"

Trump is engaged in a trade with China, but the president and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, earlier this month agreed on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to a 90-day truce on further tariffs while the pair tries to find a solution.

Still, farms that produce soybeans, milk, beef and corn are still suffering due to low global demand and low prices.

In total, the U.S. Department of Agriculture will pay out its second and final round of payments from a $12 billion aid package he promised last July to corn growers, dairy producers, pork producers, soybean growers, and wheat growers.

"While there have been positive movements on the trade front, American farmers are continuing to experience losses due to unjustified trade retaliation by foreign nations," Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said in a statement. "This assistance will help with short-term cash flow issues as we move into the new year."
