Dannenfelser: Obama Undermining Constitution

By    |   Tuesday, 27 April 2010 11:51 PM

President Obama’s policies are damaging our Constitution, says Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony List, a group that works to elect female politicians who oppose abortion.

“There is a deep concern that the will of the people isn’t being acknowledged in any way,” she told Newsmax.TV.

“The consent of the governed is being ignored. The principles that our country was founded on are being set aside in order that a very charismatic leader can communicate and then get in the back door policies that undermine our constitution.”

Obama will say things he knows are popular, such as that his healthcare bill wouldn’t fund abortions, Dannenfelser says.

“Then the day or moment after, he’ll immediately undermine the commitment he has made in a very non-transparent, underhanded and malicious way. That’s why people are worried now.”

Comparing Obama to former President Reagan, she said that what the two share in common are communication skills and charisma.

“What Obama doesn’t share with President Reagan is his follow-through and ability to bring aspects of the country together for a common cause and bring out a true common ground.”

Obama claimed he was looking for common ground between the pro-life and pro-abortion movements and then blew that up, Dannenfelser explains.

“The first thing he did out of the box as president was to enact the most unpopular position the country has seen under his presidency,” she said.

That was Obama’s decision to overturn the policy preventing foreign aid from being used to fund abortion.

“He’s making us pay for abortions. That’s not common ground,” Dannenfelser pointed out. “This is a man who believes in words, not actions.”

Dannenfelser is spokesperson for the Winning America Back event May 1 in Independence, Mo., which will help rally the opposition against Obama. Speakers there will include Elizabeth Cheney and Sarah Palin.

For information about attending the event, see preservingamericanliberty.com.

The event is being organized by Preserving American Liberty, a grass roots conservative group in Missouri.

Dannenfelser says Preserving American Liberty represents the same movement as activist groups in other states.

“There are different names in different states,” she said. “The commonality is a deep concern about the direction of the country and stepping up to the plate.”

Before this administration, citizens may have felt they could ignore politics, go to work and live their family lives in private, Dannenfelser said.

“We could do that because we had a basic trust the government was headed in the right direction. Not so now. This is the entire conservative movement, which is a very exciting thing.”

Dannenfelser’s Susan B. Anthony List is targeting pro-life congressional Democrats who voted for the healthcare law.

“They very much undermined their own consciences and the consciences of Americans,” she said.

“We’re moving back into those districts with much force to un-elect some of those folks who have completely undermined their constituencies, forcing you and me to fund abortions throughout the country.”

The group is targeting numerous Democrats. At the top of the list are Reps. Kathy Dahlkemper of Pennsylvania, Alan Mollohan of West Virginia and Brad Ellsworth of Indiana, Dannenfelser said.

“These are viable races where we can pick up a pro-life win.”

She urges that Newsmax readers get involved with the election campaign.

“Now until election day will determine the future of our country and whether our constitution is undermined bit by bit, or whether it’s restored, and we bring America back to where it ought to be.”

On the subject of who Obama will appoint to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, Dannenfelser says that if Obama chooses someone who backs the Roe v. Wade decision, he’ll be misinterpreting the constitution.

“Legal scholars from all over the spectrum agree that technology has made Roe v. Wade an outdated decision,” she said.

The decision is gradually being chipped away at the local level. But Obama would like to take decision making out of the hands of the people, so that they can’t pass their own laws.

“This is exactly the problem the country is looking at with the Obama administration: power is being taken out of their hands to determine their own future,” Dannenfelser said.

“This is why the conservative movement is going to make gains on Election Day.”
