Toyota: U.S. Sales Rise as Incentives Spur Demand

Monday, 03 May 2010 02:30 PM

Toyota says its U.S. sales rose 24 percent in April from a year earlier as incentives continued to spur demand, although the paced slowed from a strong March.

The Japanese automaker said Monday it sold 157,439 vehicles last month, propelled by surging demand of previously recalled vehicles like the Corolla, the Prius and the RAV4.

Toyota rolled out a slate of incentives in March to restore demand for its recalled cars and trucks and kept most of the promotions running through April. They included zero-percent financing, free maintenance for two years and discounted leases.

Though sales rose from April last year, they fell 16 percent from March. Other automakers are reporting a similar slowdown.
