Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced that most employees will be able to work at home forever.

BuzzFeed News obtained a company email that Dorsey sent to employees on Tuesday telling them they would be allowed to work from home permanently.

Some positions that can’t be done from home will require employees to go to the office. Dorsey said the office probably won’t reopen until September. He said business travel will be canceled until September as well, noting there would be very few exceptions.

All in-person events have also been canceled through the end of the year.

“We've been very thoughtful in how we've approached this from the time we were one of the first companies to move to a work-from-home model,” a Twitter spokesperson told BuzzFeed News. “We'll continue to be, and we'll continue to put the safety of our people and communities first.”

Twitter began allowing employees to work from home in early March to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Twitter will reassess its plan for 2021 later this year. Dorsey’s email also said it will increase its allowance for home supplies to $1,000 for all employees.

“Opening offices will be our decision,” a Twitter spokesperson told NBC News. “When and if our employees come back, will be theirs. So if our employees are in a role and situation that enables them to work from home and they want to continue to do so forever, we will make that happen. If not, our offices will be their warm and welcoming selves, with some additional precautions, when we feel it’s safe to return.”
