Video: Tesla Car Drives, Parallel Parks By Itself in Silicon Valley

(Tesla)

A new video posted on Tesla's website shows one of the company's cars driving by itself through Silicon Valley and parking on its own.

A human is sitting in driver's seat with his hands ready to take the wheel if necessary, but a graphic on the video reads, "The person in the driver's seat is only there for legal reasons. He is not doing anything. The car is driving itself."

The car cruises through surface streets before hopping on the freeway and heading over to a Tesla office. When the car arrives, it stops to let the person out and then proceeds to drive around a parking lot before selecting a spot in front of the office — and parallel parking into it.

While in the lot, a man walks in front of the car — which immediately stopped and let him pass before continuing.

The video was released in conjunction with Tesla's announcement all of its new cars will come equipped with self-driving capabilities.

A Tesla driver using the auto-pilot feature died in a crash in May.
