Obama Is Said to Plan Meeting With Dimon, Moynihan This Week

Wednesday, 10 April 2013 03:12 PM

President Barack Obama is set to meet tomorrow with heads of the world’s biggest financial firms, including JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s Jamie Dimon and Bank of America Corp.’s Brian T. Moynihan, people briefed on the plans said.

The bankers are in Washington for the Financial Services Forum’s quarterly meeting, according to the people. Goldman Sachs Group Inc. Chief Executive Officer Lloyd Blankfein is chairman of the group. More than a dozen of the trade group’s 19 members are in town and scheduled to meet at the White House with administration officials, one person said.

While the meeting hasn’t been announced by the White House as part of the president’s daily schedule, he plans to attend at least part of it, the people said. Laena Fallon, a spokeswoman for the Washington-based Forum, declined to comment.

Obama’s Nov. 6 win of a second term in the White House helped drive the KBW Bank Index to its worst drop in five months the following day. The White House is seeking to rebuild relationships with top business leaders as the president struggles to create more jobs.

“Over the past three years our businesses have created nearly 6.5 million new jobs, but we know we can help them create more,” Obama said today in announcing his 2014 budget plan. “Corporate profits are at all-time high, but we have to get wages and incomes rising as well.”

Other members of the forum include Citigroup Inc. CEO Michael Corbat, Deutsche Bank AG’s Anshu Jain and Morgan Stanley’s James Gorman.
