I suggested months ago that according to some of my sources, Donald Trump was considering a run for the presidency in 2012.

I was met by negativity and skepticism from both sides of the political aisle. Personally, I thought it would be interesting to see someone who, instead of spending their life in academia or government, has brokered high-level negotiations and created real jobs. And someone who has done it all within time and budget constraints

Remember Wollman Skating Rink? The rink was closed in 1980 for an announced 2 1/2 years of renovations. When the work wasn’t completed by 1986, Trump persuaded then-New York City Mayor Ed Koch to let him complete the work. New Yorkers were grateful when Trump finished ahead of schedule and under budget in renovating the rink, now known as Trump Wollman Skating Rink.

That’s a different outcome, compared to the trillion-dollar deficits the government has been running.

Economically, the stock market should rise with a Trump candidacy, given the emphasis all the candidates will now have on the main theme of the 2012 election: jobs. Even if Trump doesn’t win, he will force President Barack Obama and all of the Republican candidates to deal with bringing jobs back to America

Yet, Trump still attracts criticism.

Gossip columnist Perez Hilton in his blog recently belittled Trump as a serious presidential candidate.

And Ron Paul’s supporters were upset when Trump said: “I like Ron Paul, but he has no chance of getting elected."

That is hardly a derogatory or profound statement. It just shows me how candid and blunt Trump is.

Trump scares his critics because he already has what they all yearn for: power, money and fame.

Republicans are already hinting that Trump has supported Democrats with financial contributions in the past.

Obama won the last election by promising to work across the aisle and compromise with both parties.

Trump, when asked recently by Newsmax correspondent Kathleen Walter what advice he would offer Obama, said he would tell the president: “You can do better.”

I believe we, as a nation, also “can do better” – by electing Trump president, should he run for office.

Trump has the experience, track record and bluntness needed for the job of president. He isn’t beholden to others and cares about results — not lip service.
