Top 5 Exports From Israel: Which Israeli Products Are Most Imported Around the World?

By    |   Monday, 02 November 2015 04:13 PM EST

Exports in Israel are largely sent to the United States, with 23 percent of the country's imports coming to America, surpassing the United Kingdom by a margin of more than 14.6 percent.

Israel’s developed economy and educated workforce have made it a significant player in the global economy. Here are the Top 5 exports coming out of Israel, according to 2013 data from the Observatory of Economic Complexity:

Vote Now: Should the U.S. Continue to Support Israel?

1. Packaged medicaments
Packaged medicaments, which include antibiotics, insulin, hormones, and alkaloids, make up 11 percent of Israel’s exports, according to the OEC. The industry is valued at a net worth of $5.94 billion.

2. Refined petroleum
Refined petroleum ranks second among Israel’s exports in terms of percentage and net value, 7.6 percent and $4.13 billion respectively. Though refined petroleum is one of Israel's largest exports, the country accounts for less than 1 percent of the world's refined petroleum trade, according to the OEC. Refined petroleum does not include crude oil and encompasses "oil, bituminous, diesel, gasoline, gas, kerosene, jet fuel, white spirit, [and] aviation fuel," says the OEC.

3. Diamonds
Unlike refined petroleum, Israel’s net value in the diamond industry is globally relevant. It ranks fifth in the world at $4.07 billion, 7.5 percent of the global share. The Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the Israel Diamond Exchange is the largest diamond-trading floor in the world and that in 2008 the industry exports were at $9.4 billion before the global recession.

4. Integrated circuits
Integrated circuits, aka electronic chips, are Israel's fourth-largest export. Though Israel is not among the top global exporters in this category — it accounts for just two-fifths of the global market — Israel's integrated circuits have a value $1.91 billion, according to the OEC.

5. Aircraft parts
Aircraft parts exported from Israel account for 2.1 percent of the global market. But with a value of $1.71 billion, this category is still a major factor in Israel's economy. Globally, France and the United States are at the top of the list of aircraft parts importers.
