Best Swimwear For Pear Shapes

Wednesday, 29 December 2010 10:52 AM EST

The key to looking your best on the beach or by the pool is choosing the right swimwear for your body shape. Women fall into a few different categories of body styles, or shapes, and each shape has certain swimwear styles that do the best job of flattering that particular shape. Let's take a look at two swimwear styles that do a nice job of flattering women with pear shaped bodies.

Two Piece Swimwear
For pear shaped bodies, choosing a two piece swimsuit is a good idea, because it allows you to choose the right piece for each section of your body. With swimsuits, the key to creating a flattering look is bringing attention to your best features, while drawing attention away from your worst features. To do this with two piece swimwear, choose a top that is bright and bold, and enhances your bust. For the bottom, choose a dark or neutral color, and stick with high cut legs and low rise waists, as they add a slimming effect. Avoid boycut styles and briefs, as they do nothing but draw attention to the area.

When choosing bottoms, you'll also want to avoid ones with skirts, belts, and other extra material. These things draw attention to your lower half, and instead of hiding a pear shaped body, add more bulk to your silhouette. Also, avoid adding beach skirts over the top of your swimsuit; rather than hide your shape, they just bring attention to your lower half. A beach dress, however, is a perfectly fine option for covering up, providing it is cut in a style designed to flatter a pear shaped body.

One Piece Swimwear
If you are uncomfortable with two piece swimwear, there are plenty of one piece swimwear options that also accentuate a pear shaped figure. As with two pieces, choose a one piece that draws attention up, rather than down. One piece swimwear with plunging necklines are a nice way to do this, as are multi colored pieces that feature bright colors on top and graduate to dark colors on the bottom.
When choosing a one piece, if you are uncomfortable with your stomach or hips, look for swimwear that contains control panels. These can be a nice way to help you feel confident, without tempting you to "cover up" with a skirt, which as we discussed will only draw attention to your lower half.
