5 Sleep Improvement Devices

Tuesday, 28 December 2010 11:19 AM EST

If you are having trouble breathing while asleep you may have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a medical condition that is characterized by low breathing or stoppage of breathing in the middle of sleep due to the obstructed air passage. This kind of disorder can be easily treated with the use of certain sleep aids or sleep apnea machines that function in such a way as to allow more freedom in breathing air during sleep.

Here are five sleep apnea appliances:

CPAP Machine: This sleep apnea machine allows unobstructed breathing by keeping the nasal airway splinted and open under pressure. The machine delivers compressed air with the use of a hose that can be attached to a nose mask. By keeping the airway open and unobstructed, this snoring solution allows for a good night’s sleep as well as reduces snoring. CPAP machines are very small and help in the treatment of sleep apnea.

Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD)
: This snoring solution for sleep apnea treatment is a relatively new device. It is one of the most commonly used dental devices for sleep apnea treatment and is a good option for people who are not able to use CPAP for some reason or another. The mandibular advancement device is a dental device that forces the lower jaw slightly forward to ensure that the airway is open for breathing normally. The device looks like a mouth guard and can be easily fitted in the mouth to ensure a good night’s sleep.

Tongue Retaining Device
: Tongue retaining device or TRD is a small splint that is used to place the tongue in such a way so as to permit the airflow to be open and free at night. This sleep apnea device may need replacing periodically to ensure greater success in the treatment of sleep apnea.

DreamKeeper 400 Sleep Aid
:  This sleep aid is used to improve the quality of sleep without using any sort of drugs to artificially enhance sleeping methods. This device uses acupuncture to improve the quality of sleep by applying the principles of acupressure on the nerves of the wrist by sending out gentle pulses and vibrations.

Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure or BiPap
is a device that has come up with a positive solution to CPAP’s problems. This sleep apnea machine involves a mechanism that has extra pressure to ensure that the lungs get enough air during the night. This machine is different from CPAP in that it allows a lower pressure to be set for exhalation and thus ensures that people suffering from sleep apnea can exhale with much better efficiency.
