  1. Dahlonega
 - Dahlonega is about an hour north of Atlanta in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Not only does it offer hiking opportunities, the city is also home to Napa Valley-type wineries. For those interested in living in a historic area, Dahlonega won’t disappoint with its 19th century buildings lining downtown streets, as well its historic square. The average home price is in the mid $100,000s, making it a popular retirement spot.
  2. Savannah
 - Savannah is another popular retirement town in Georgia because of its history, architecture, and beaches. It also has a vibrant downtown, with art festivals, music fairs, and craft events. While the city does see about 12 million tourists a year, the population is around 130,000. According to Retirement Places Report, the summer can be hot and humid, but with the mild winters, outdoor activities can be enjoyed on an almost year-round basis.  - Greensboro has a smaller population around 3,300 and is on the higher end for home prices around $193,500; however, Retirement Places Report lists it as one of their favorite retirement towns in Georgia. There are four golf communities in Greensboro as well as a Ritz-Carlton, and it is about an hour's drive from Atlanta. It is also a few miles away from Lake Oconee. The Retirement Places Report says one of the biggest attractions of the town is the lack of urban congestion.
  5. Gainesville
 - Another popular Georgia retirement spot is Gainesville. It is also in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is about 55 miles from Atlanta. According to MarketWatch, Gainesville is also known as a boater's paradise because of Lake Lanier, which has about 700 miles of shoreline and 10 marinas. Making up for the more rural setting, Gainesville also has one of the top health-care centers in the area with the Northeast Georgia Health System. The population is about 33,800 and the median home cost is $112,900.
