By    |   Wednesday, 22 Apr 2015 02:57 PM

A non-denominational church or organization is one that is not associated with any specific established Christian denomination.

For this reason, non-denominational Christian churches decide on their own policies, worship rituals and leadership methods. They quite simply call themselves Christians in service of God.

Here are six non-denominational Christian churches:

1. Churches of Christ: Among characteristics for the Churches of Christ are taking their set of creeds must straight from the Bible, individuals are baptized as adults, and congregations are overseen by church elders and members partake in weekly communion. One characteristic that sets this group apart is that they believe solely in acapella congregational singing.

2. Vineyard Church: Headquartered in Texas, the Vineyard Church is another example of a non-denominational church. This church's music label, called Vineyard Music, is considered one of the top record labels in the Christian worship music industry. The primary founder, John Wimber sought to create a church environment that felt low-key and low-pressure and that welcomes everyone.

3. Independent Christian Churches:
This church is similar to the Churches of Christ, except that they use instruments in their worship services. Independent Christian Churches follow the basic principles of the Restoration Movement and believe in total obedience to Christ.

This is a non-denominational Christian organization. Based in Honduras, this group focuses on fighting for peace, public security, and anti-corruption in their country.

5. Audio Scripture Ministries: This is a non-denominational Christian group in charge of a unique Christian worldwide project. According to their website, billions of people across the world do not know how to read, and therefore cannot read the word of God. As a remedy for this, the group records and distributes audio Bibles in native languages. Founded in 1967, its goal is to make sure no one is stopped from knowing the Gospel because he or she cannot read.

6. Hope Haven:
Another non-denominational Christian organization that is set on helping others, Hope Haven was started in Iowa in 1964. Its goal is to serve people with disabilities. It provides job training for people with hearing disabilities, for example. It provides disabled individuals with adult living services, job placement, mental health and recovery, and religious services to name a few.
