More than 30 million acres of land, or about one-third of the Montana’s total area, are available for hunting in the state. This can make planning the perfect hunt quite a chore. Numerous online resources and mobile apps are available to aids hunters in Montana.

“At a minimum you will need a good set of maps and some time to spend for scouting to determine available habitat and game populations,” the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks said.

1. The Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Official Website
This is an essential guide for anybody who wants to hunt in Montana, regardless of experience level. The site includes instructions about how to apply for a license along with detailed assessments of the local wildlife’s habitation patterns.

2. Montana Geographic Information Clearinghouse
This service of the Montana State Library provides a comprehensive collection of data about Montana’s geography, climate and local ecology.
