Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is still waffling on whether he will throw his hat into the ring as a GOP candidate for president in 2016. Below are what five liberal journalists have to say about Mike Pence and his chances in 2016.

1. David Shipley
One of Gov. Pence’s controversial issues is his stance on education and the Common Core educational standards, which he had criticized and rebranded in his state amid an effort by some to repeal Common Core in Indiana. Bloomberg’s liberal pundit David Shipley came out strong on the issue in the Bloomberg View, saying the higher uniform educational standards are needed. According to Shipley, “Without higher standards, U.S. students will continue to fall behind their peers overseas — and the U.S. economy will suffer the fallout.”

2. Hunter
Michael Lazzaro, the Daily Kos columnist known as Hunter, slams Gov. Pence for his remarks about giving food to the unemployed. On Fox News, Pence stated, “I’m someone that believes there’s nothing more ennobling to a person than a job.” One of Hunter’s responses to this was, “Not having to eat garbage out of trash cans. That's pretty ennobling.”

3. Chuck Todd
"Meet the Press" moderator Chuck Todd used Gov. Pence as an example of how to negotiate with the federal government in expanding Medicaid coverage, in his attack on Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.

While hammering Jindal, Todd asked, “Why is Mike Pence of Indiana wrong? Mike Pence did get the federal government to approve a much different plan. Why not negotiate with the government and do something that you want to do?”

4. Arianna Huffington
Liberal blogger Arianna Huffington painted Mike Pence with a broad brush while attacking John McCain’s report on conditions in Iraq. Huffington ridiculed Pence’s observation during a trip to Iraq a few years back, while on a stroll through Baghdad’s Central Market, that it was just like, "a normal outdoor market in Indiana in the summertime." Huffington retorted,

“Take away the 100 soldiers in armored Humvees and the three Blackhawk helicopters and two Apache gunships circling above and his comparison was spot on.”

5. Bill Moyers and Joshua Holland
In an article on Moyers & Company, liberal Joshua Holland weighs in on the growing list of possible 2016 presidential candidates. Holland dumps Mike Pence in a group of a “coterie of charisma-challenged white men who could play the role of Tim Pawlenty this time around,” along with Jon Kasich and Rob Portman. (Pawlenty is the former Republican governor of Minnesota.)
