The American Seniors Association (ASA) is a conservative seniors organization that aims to represent seniors in the U.S. political system. The organization helps seniors obtain insurance coverage and benefits for themselves and their families, as well as offers an alternative to the traditionally left-leaning seniors group, AARP.
The group maintains a stance on Medicaid that is consistent with its “four pillars,” which are stances on the issues the organization feels are most important to seniors.

The group’s first pillar involves illegal immigration. The ASA has spoken out against illegal immigration and maintains that Social Security benefits including Medicaid should not be extended to illegal aliens. The ASA’s conservative stance demonstrates their belief that smaller, but effective, Social Security plans are more beneficial to Americans.
The ASA’s second pillar involves Medicare reform. The group believes Medicare has been abused and needs to be changed to become less wasteful. Similarly, the ASA also calls for Social Security reform in order to protect the system from too much government interference.
Medicaid is closely aligned with Medicare and falls under the category of Social Security. Thus, the ASA is calling for a reformed benefits system where government is less involved.

ASA’s fourth pillar is tax reform. The organization wants a simpler tax code and is generally supportive of efforts to cut taxes when possible. Thus the ASA does not support the expansion of Medicaid or most Social Security programs.
In 2005 the ASA endorsed the Stop the Raid on Social Security Act, which would have prevented Congress from spending excess Social Security funds on other government programs.
"Currently the government takes the Social Security surplus and spends it, leaving an IOU this legislation stops the raid by appropriating the surplus to the personal accounts of workers each year," said Jerry Barton, ASA founder and chairman in 2005,
according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
