Louisiana has some of the most restrictive abortion laws in the nation, and the issue continues to spur debate.
The state's conservative governor, Bobby Jindal, who is running for the GOP nomination for president, praised his state's pro-life record,
the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported.
The paper said Jindal touted his anti-abortion record in a speech before the National Right to Life Convention. It noted that Jindal signed "a bevy of abortion restrictions in his two terms, helping win Louisiana the ranking as the 'most pro-life state for the last six years.'"

"The left wants to take God out of the public square," Jindal said, citing recent Supreme Court decisions and tying them to Roe v. Wade. "If the court is just going to be a public opinion poll ... we should just get rid of it."
Jindal later criticized abortion rights activists in an interview with
radio host Steve Deace, according to Right Wing Watch.
“They try to defend themselves by saying this is health care and patient-centered,” he said. “This is not health care. Abortions are not health care, and this is not about the patient. The patient in this case is that unborn baby. They’ve got no concern for the unborn baby, and you can see that in the video.”
Jindal launched an investigation into the state's Planned Parenthood group after viewing a controversial viral video of someone suggesting that they were selling tissue from aborted fetuses. Planned Parenthood pushed back on any allegation of wrong-doing,
according to television station WWLTV.
"These outrageous claims are flat-out untrue," said Melissa Flournoy, who serves as Planned Parenthood's Louisiana state director.
She defended her group. "Planned Parenthood has been providing high-quality, affordable health care to the people of Louisiana for 30 years. We are committed to completing our new health center in New Orleans and providing the full range of reproductive health care this community overwhelmingly supports and needs such as lifesaving cancer screenings, birth control, STI testing and treatment, HIV screening; and safe, legal abortion. Make no mistake: This health center will open, and Planned Parenthood will do everything we can to provide care for the women and men of Louisiana who rely on us."
