On the West Virginia Hemp Farmer’s Collective website, a person posting as Mason Everyone explained how he felt the state was progressing in its way to growing hemp. “Hemp has the capability to be West Virginia’s cash crop, with so many industrial applications, it is important that we finalize our hemp bureaucracy before our neighboring states get the head start,” he wrote.

2. In a paper released by the Patriot Bioenergy Corporation, David Hadland, the president of the Kentucky Hemp Growers Cooperative Association, urged people to grow hemp to provide alternatives to coal, saying, “The energy sector must continuously adapt and use viable technologies that are best for Kentucky, West Virginia and our nation. The war on coal has taken its toll. We need to save and create jobs in Kentucky and West Virginia.”

3. Morgan Leach is a law student at West Virginia University and organized Hemp History Week at the school. West Virginia Public Broadcasting quotes Leach as saying, “From some limited research that we have through the West Virginia Extensions, they project that hemp can provide up to $400 an acre for farmers.”

4. In a story reported by the West Virginia Gazette, William Rice, a farmer, stated, “When I hear the profit margin on hemp, that’s a good margin on it. That’s better than I can do on corn or beans.”
