Is Global Warming Real? Of Course, According to These 10 Celebrities

When it comes to questions about global warming, Hollywood is as divided as the rest of the country. Here are nine celebrities who would answer “Of course,” to the question of whether global warming is real.

Brad Pitt
contributed green building materials to help in the construction of affordable and environmentally friendly homes in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Pitt has called Hurricane Katrina a “man-made disaster” and said green buildings offer “man-made solutions.”

Cameron Diaz has worked with Al Gore to raise awareness of climate change. She was among the first Hollywood celebrities to drive a Toyota Prius. She helped develop “The Green Book,” which offers practical tips for green and sustainable living.

Don Cheadle has worked with the United Nations on climate change concerns. He served as a celebrity correspondent on Showtime’s documentary “Years of Living Dangerously,” which reports on those working to offer solutions to climate change.

Ted Danson is a longtime ocean activist. He is the co-founder of American Oceans Campaign, which is devoted to protecting oceans and coastal water. Danson has said climate change is the most important environmental issue of our time.”

Susan Sarandon is among celebrities urging President Obama to do more on climate change. The actress starred in a video in 2009 urging Americans to join the Capitol Climate Action, a show of civil disobedience relating to global warming.

Al Gore
is a former U.S. senator and Democratic vice president. Gore starred in "An Inconvenient Truth," a documentary with a call to action on climate change. Gore founded two nonprofit organizations, The Alliance for Climate Protection and The Climate Project, which merged in 2011 into the Climate Reality Project.

Leonardo DiCaprio started a foundation in 1998 to promote environmental issues. He is currently writing and producing “11th Hour,” a documentary on global warming. DiCaprio drives a Prius and serves on the boards of several environmental advocacy organizations.

Edward Norton has served as the U.N. goodwill ambassador for biodiversity. He has advocated for the creation of an Arctic reserve and the protection of animal and plant species. Norton signed Greenpeace’s petition for a global sanctuary around the North Pole, with a ban on offshore oil drilling. He is on the board of directors of Global Green USA, which works to fight climate change.

Natalie Portman
has a history of green activism. Portman is linked with Global Green USA, a nonprofit that fights global climate change through housing and education initiatives. The vegetarian has designed a line of vegan shoes and participated in a documentary about endangered gorillas. Even her wedding ring is environmentally friendly.

Sting has been a longtime activist for the preservation for the Amazon’s rainforests. He and his wife Trudy Styler have established the Rainforest Foundation, a charity dedicated to protecting rainforests and their inhabitants. In 2014, Sting said President Obama isn’t doing enough on climate change: “We can do more than just dig oil out of the ground and destroy the climate.”
