International Travel: 8 Tips That Will Make Your Life Easier Abroad

By    |   Wednesday, 21 September 2016 08:36 AM

Traveling abroad is exciting, but some people might be in such a hurry to jet off, they forget the simple things that make life easier while away from home.

The items travelers need to bring along with them are the products they use every day but may not think about when packing.

Here are eight tips that will make life easier when traveling abroad:

1. Make copies of your passport and bring them with you, or store an electronic copy in your email in case of a lost or stolen passport, Travelzoo advises. This makes it easier to prove citizenship for easier travel.

2. Keep plenty of cash on hand — local currency to the country you are visiting — because credit cards aren’t always accepted everywhere.

3. Purchase guide books to the countries you plan to visit. It helps to have maps and information when you finally arrive at your destination. You could also include books or magazines you like to read for downtime.

4. Take a charger adapter with you because some countries have different sized outlets or voltages. You’ll also want to bring along the tech devices that make for better traveling, such as mobile devices, e-readers, and cameras.

5. Basic clothing items to pack include shirts, pants, dresses, shorts, belts, sweaters, jackets, socks, sleepwear, underwear, and comfortable walking shoes, Eagle Creek notes. Sunglasses and jewelry will also come in handy for outside occasions and going out for dinner or entertainment.

6. Don’t forget personal care items, including a toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, make-up, lip balm, sunscreen, hair brush or comb, or personal hygiene items.

7. Medication is essential if you are on prescribed medicine, but taking along over-the-counter items, such as pain relievers or anti-diarrheal medication, could provide remedies when the unexpected occurs, according to Gadling.

8. A small travel bag makes your life easier abroad to carry necessities such as a cell phone, wallet, travel documents, or your passport. The travel bag should be easy to carry and makes for quick access when you need to show identification or provide information.
