With more than 268,000 square miles of land, Texas has a lot of land to manage with a variety of different types of ecosystems and autonomous wildlife populations to consider.

This vastness makes for a great deal of regulations, and all that information can be daunting to even the most experienced sport hunter, but fortunately for anyone interested in hunting in Texas there are several online resources and mobile apps to keep you up to date while in the field.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department maintains a highly detailed, informative and free app, which is available in Android and iOS.

Outdoor Annual, "the official app of Texas hunting and fishing," gives sport hunters and anglers ready access to all the latest regulations and seasonal information for game species throughout the state, including dates, bag limits, and restrictions by county, and species identification assistance.

While some features on the app require an Internet connection, such as the purchase of licenses and stamps, the biggest benefit to hunters is that most of Texas' Outdoor Annual app is still functional when they're far outside of their accessible data network range.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department also maintains an extremely robust online presence as well.

The TPWD website provides highly detailed information regarding current regulations in an easily navigable environment for sport hunters of any age or level of tech saavy.

The website also provides a wide range of educational materials on a variety of subjects ranging from wildlife conservation to game management, including a broad range of various activities from stargazing to horseback riding, and the best locations as well as related restrictions or regulations.

Once you've made into the field and bagged your quarry, the TPWD has another handy free app, My Texas Hunt Harvest. This app enables you to record your game harvest, geotag the location of the kill, and share it on social media. My Texas Hunt Harvest can be downloaded on Android and Apple devices, including tablets.

Dedicated big game sport hunters can use the Texas Deer Hunting Guide, this third-party app from RedSnake Enterprises claims to have been "created by Texas Outdoorsmen, for Texas Outdoorsmen." on their Android or Apple mobile device .

This app will provide information specific to deer season, including season dates and bag limits by county, and the rut forecasts for each of the 12 Level III eco-regions of the state.

Texas Deer Hunting Guide also includes helpful links to programs such as Hunters for the Hungry and contact information for the closest game warden.

With such rich biodiversity and spectrum of ecosystems available for consideration, the wealth of information available can become overwhelming. Thanks to the evolution of digital information and the increasingly widespread demand and use of mobile devices, the sport hunter has a great deal of information available at their fingertips and a much more efficient means of accessing what they need as quickly as possible.
