Hunting in Ohio: Top Spots for Hunting in the Buckeye State

The state of Ohio remains one of the most popular in the Northeast portion of the country for hunting. During any time of the year, hunters can marvel in the state’s beautiful scenery, whether it is the greens of spring and summer, the vivid oranges and reds of autumn, or the whites of winter.

3. Conesville Coal Lands
Conesville Coal consists of 12,000 acres of land. Permits are required; however, they can be acquired online or at a local bait shop.

4. Shawnee State Forest
Located in the southwest portion of the state, the forest consists of 60,000 acres of public land. The website refers to this location as “a more rugged hunting experience.”

5. Wolfcreek Whitetails
A private hunting experience located in the southeastern portion of the state. This options features “semi-guided” hunts and pre-installed tree stands.

Turkey hunting is also one of the more popular activities for hunters throughout the state. Fortunately, there are plenty of locations for this as well. Controlled waterfowl hunts are allowed in the area, located in Magee Marsh Wildlife Area and Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge.

2. Northeast Ohio
The primary duck producing spots are Killbuck Marsh and Mosquito Creek Wildlife Area.

3. Central Ohio
Killdeer Plains and Big Island Wildlife Area are two popular public areas for hunting in this section of the state.

4. Southern Ohio
Numerous state park lakes and wildlife areas such as Salt Fork and Mercer make up the most accessible areas of this part of the state.
