HPV, or human papillomavirus, is a disease that is transmitted mostly through sexual contact. Often there are no obvious symptoms and people fail to recognize that they are infected. The disease can lead to genital warts or other types of warts in the body. Medicines are available to fight the disease but are often very expensive and can take a long time to show any effect. As a result, natural remedies and diet modification methods are becoming popular. These are less expensive and more effective in fighting the virus in the long term.
Here are some ways your diet can help fight HPV:
1.Cruciferous vegetables. If you show HPV symptoms, include cruciferous vegetables in your diet. Phytochemicals such as diindolylmethane found in these vegetables kill infected cells and prevent further infection to neighboring cells. Cruciferous vegetables include: cabbage, brussels sprouts, kale, and broccoli.
2. Eat foods with anti-cancer properties. Carotenoids or derivatives such as lycopene, lutein, and beta-cryptoxanthin are anti-carcinogenic. Vitamin C and E, selenium, and folate also possess anti-cancer properties. Foods rich in these are properties are citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables like spinach, carrots, pumpkin, and eggs.
3. Sip some green tea. Green tea is rich in flavoinoids and polyphenols which are effective anti-cancer agents. Research has shown that these are able to prevent many cancer types with growth inhibition of the tumor.
4. Eat more whole grains, seeds, and nuts. Whole foods increase the body’s immunity towards disease. Increase your intake of whole grains. Buy breads, pastas, and cereals that are made with whole grain and not with white processed flours. Whole grains include whole wheat, brown rice, bulger, corn, buckwheat, oatmeal, and wild rice. Also include seeds and nuts in your diet.
5.Avoid sugar. If you have a sweet tooth, make some sacrifices and cut back on sugar in your diet. Sugar can suppress the immune power of our body.
