Mike Detty at Personal Defense World gave a rave review of the Ultra Carry CDP version of the Kimber 1911 pistol. Detty compared it to the Classic Custom 1911 model he had used for several years.

He described the Classic Custom as one of his most-fired and frequently carried guns, which has used more than 50,000 rounds. "I have used that pistol for several high-speed defense classes and it has never failed me. It is a gun I’ve always been able to count on and one that will always be a part of my personal collection," Detty wrote.

Patrick Sweeney took a look at the top three Kimber 1911 pistols for Guns and Ammo magazine. His review covered the Kimber Custom II, Super Carry Pro, and Ultra RCP II. Sweeny noted that all three are .45 ACP and use identical magazines. The Super Carry Pro offers greater compactness than the steel-framed Custom II with a four-inch barrel and rounded butt for easier carrying. The Ultra RCP is even more compact than the other two pistols, featuring an aluminum frame and a three-inch barrel. They all delivered: "As for shooting and testing these or any other Kimbers, they performed pretty much as you’d expect; quite well, indeed," Sweeney wrote.

Average Joes Handgun Reviews took an in-depth look at the Kimber Super Carry Pro .45 ACP on a review posted to his website. He dismissed criticisms of reliability with Kimber pistols he had noted on various handgun forums, describing it as a pistol with superb accuracy after the breaking in period. "Since 2003 I have owned 7 other Kimber pistols in a wide variety of lengths (2 Ultra length, 3 Pro length, and 2 full-sized pistols) and have never had a moment of problem with them. Because of the tight tolerances on which they are built the Kimber 1911's require a lengthy break-in period," the reviewer noted.
