Right-handed versus left-handed — which makes for a better golfer?

It has become an age-old debate and, while there are significantly less lefties, there is still a vast array of information, tips, advice out there to enhance their skills.

But what about all the right-handed golfers?

Whether you are a left- or a right-handed golfer, it all comes down to revisiting the basics. Here, we look at golfing tips that could benefit right-handers:

1. Perfect your posture and stance — Being a better golfer starts from the ground up, according to PGA golfer Pete Styles on his website offering free online golf tips. Focus on creating a wide, solid, stable, and balanced start and develop a posture in which you tilt at your hips, not your waist.

2. Master your grip— Golfers tend to apply more pressure on their dominant hand but this could be to the detriment of your play. Try to balance out the pressure in your right hand and your left hand, which is likely to grip the club too lightly, Golf Tips Mag reported.

3. Swing from the hips — The bulk of all down swing faults arise from golfers using their upper body on their dominant side, and not “bumping the hips,” Styles said, explaining that the lower body should start the movement.

4. Heed the reverse pivot— According to golfing coach Grant Hepburn, the most common swing fault is the reverse pivot. “When you are guilty of this flaw, your swing operates in reverse of how it should and your weight moves in the opposite direction to which it is supposed to,” he said, according to CompleatGolfer.com. He suggests focusing on the right hip, which tends to slide laterally to the right instead of turning during the backswing.

5. Perfect your putt like Tiger Woods— He may be a champ, but Tiger Woods has attributed his putt to a secret shared by his friend and top PGA putter Steve Stricker, according to Golf Influence. Woods said Stricker's putt was great because of his square stance, as well as the left-hand brush through the ball. What did Woods do to perfect his putt? He began practicing exclusively with his right hand to practice strokes with only the left hand.

6. Stack those chips— A great chip is often overlooked but can be instrumental in a solid game. To master your chip, Golf Tips suggests focusing on stacking your impact position. The left arm, the shaft arm, and your weight should all be stacked at the moment of the truh, leading to better control and a crisp, solid hit.
