6 Golf Trends to Look for in 2018

By    |   Wednesday, 31 January 2018 09:19 AM

Advanced technology, growing popularity, and health-conscious linksters are affecting the golf trends to look for in 2018. Golf amenities and equipment continue to evolve to heighten enjoyment on the course.

More players are showing up on the green because of an upsurge in the sport’s appeal and the extra money golfers have on hand with a booming economy. Innovative courses, different formats, and new fashions will attract more participation for dramatic growth.

Here are six golf trends to look for in 2018:

1. Eastern European courses — Golfers have long traveled to Scotland and Ireland for beautiful courses, but attractive areas are opening up just to the east, according to Ship Sticks. Places such as Ypsilon Golf Resort Liberec in the Czech Republic and Costa Navarino in Greece are sure to surge in popularity this year.

2. Night golfing — A rising alternative to early morning golf might just be night golf. Glow-in-the-dark golf balls and other accessories are making this move more popular among players on the big green, playing off the idea used on miniature golf courses.

3. High-tech golf — Better equipment means improved performance. The many golf apps available are providing golfers with professional guidance, explains Keiser University College of Golf & Sport Management. Players are increasingly using these golf apps on their smartphones.

4. Cool apparel — New golf shirts will help keep the heat away during those hot days on the links, thanks to layered designs. More sporty polo shirts, skirts, and tank tops will be gracing the course as more people participate in the sport. Cool-looking shoes will add style to the game.

5. Fitness centers — Watch for additional health and wellness facilities at various courses, resorts, and hotels, according to Golf Travel Guru. Along with well-equipped fitness centers, services may include walking or jogging trails, exercise classes, and even yoga instruction to keep golfers in shape.

6. More traveling — More money from a robust economy and increasing Baby Boomer-retirees make it possible for extended golfing vacations. Longer vacations may go up to three months at the fanciest courses in Europe.
