If you find yourself pulling on your Wellingtons and heading to Delaware to fish, it is a good idea to know where top freshwater spots are for great angling. Remember the First State's law when it comes to fishing, however.
Delaware requires a license for fishing in both tidal and nontidal waters for everyone ages 16 to 65. Nontidal means freshwater bodies, such as lakes, ponds, and impoundments and in streams that do not experience tides. If you are going clamming or crabbing, you will need a license, too.
It isn't difficult to get a
fishing license from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources, as there are more than 100 places, mostly sporting goods and hardware stores, to buy one. Licenses can also be purchased online. In many instances, if you're a military veteran or active duty, you won't need a license. While you are fishing in Delaware, you need to display your license on your clothing so it can be seen.

Some of those destinations include Abbotts Mill Pond in Greenwood, which is in the center of the state and Cape Henlopen State Park is in Lewes, which is in the southern part of the state. While this is seaside, it might be worth a visit as it offers beaches, swimming, and sunbathing.
Those anglers with a boat can head to Cedar Creek Marina in Milford. This facility has fuel, a store, and picnic areas, and is adjacent to the Mispillion River. Meanwhile, pond lovers head to Coursey Pond in the center of the state.
Lums Pond State Park in Bear, which is in northern Delaware, is built surrounding the largest freshwater pond in the state. It has excellent fishing and other sports facilities and hiking trails. They rent boats and fishing gear, too. There is a boat launching ramp and two piers that allow those who favor that style of fishing.
White Clay Creek State Park, where several fishing records have been set, is in Newark in the northern part of the state. There are year-round activities here, but fishing is excellent – especially fly fishing. There are family facilities and casual barbecue opportunities. Evening concerts are not uncommon.
