1. Wal-Mart:
The leading supplier of jobs in the West Virginia workforce was started over 50 years ago by Sam Walton in Rogers, Arkansas. Wal-Mart has now grown into a worldwide conglomerate. This company is ever-expanding, thanks to its development of online shopping and their initiative to become powered by 100 percent renewable energy sources.

2. West Virginia United Health System: This is the largest healthcare system in the state. Established in 1996, it includes six acute care hospitals, numerous medical offices and a wide network of related organizations. Its member hospitals account for around 25 percent of inpatient care in the state. Its yearly revenue is more than $1.5 billion. Its wide range of healthcare services include family medicine, neurological surgery, cancer screening and care for the elderly.

3. Charleston Area Medical Center:
This is the location of one of the most large-scale heart programs in the country. According to their website, their network of physicians conducts around 8,000 cardiac catherization procedures and over 1,600 open-heart surgeries. This company also employs radiation technicians, gynecologists and medical oncologists, oncology pharmacists, psychologists and nurses. It contains a diabetes center, family medicine and internal medicine clinics.

4. Kroger: Established in 1883 by Barney Kroger, the Kroger Corporation has grown into a network of more than 2,600 stores located in 34 different states. According to their website, Kroger takes in over $98 billion per year. Kroger owns supermarkets, warehouse stores and multi-department stores.

5. Mylan Pharmaceuticals: A leading pharmaceutical company, providing 7 billion people with medicine, Mylan Pharmaceuticals also employs a substantial number of people in West Virginia. Established in 1961, Mylan manufactures generic medications and is one of the largest specialty pharmaceutical companies in the world, according to their website. They currently market over 1,300 different medicines.
