Menopause: How Your Diet Plays a Role

Wednesday, 09 February 2011 04:34 PM EST

Menopause causes not only the physical body but the psychological makeup of a woman to change. Certain post and pre menopause symptoms include irritability, memory loss, vaginal dryness, and depression.

Research has led to the establishment of the fact that a proper, well-balanced diet can have a positive effect on hormonal changes caused by menopause.

After experiencing symptoms of menopause, proper care should be taken to eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, and drink lots of water. To manage the symptoms of menopause, one should include protein in their diet. In addition, grains and carbohydrates, as well as dairy products, contribute positively to the diet.

A post menopause diet should also include foods that contain phytogestrogens in them. Foods that contain phytogestrogens include: beans, seaweed, carrots, legumes, apples, and yams. One should also include potatoes and soy in their diet.

If proper diet and exercise is maintained, hormonal changes caused by menopause can be better handled. Women should include grains, sandwiches, bagels, and cereals into their diet to combat moodiness caused by menopause. If a proper pre and post menopause diet is followed, women can experience an easy and healthy transition into menopause.
