Here are seven quotes from the heated debate:

1. "John Hickenlooper knows that the Bloomberg anti-gun laws are a failure and as sheriffs everyday [sic] we fight to protect the safety and rights of law-abiding citizens of Colorado. We will continue to fight and we look forward to presenting our case to a higher court." - Weld County Sheriff John Cooke, on Gov. Hickenlooper and in response to the ruling by from Chief U.S. District Judge Marcia Krieger that neither the magazine ban nor the background check expansion unreasonably burden gun owners or sellers.

2. "The judge today offered a thorough and reasoned opinion and recognized that the state's new gun laws do not unduly burden anyone's Second Amendment rights." - Eric Brown, spokesman for Governor of Colorado John Hickenlooper.

3. "Today is an important day in the fight to keep our communities and families safe from gun violence. Colorado's universal background checks law is a common-sense solution to keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and we now have the Court’s validation of what we have asserted from the outset — these laws do not violate anyone’s 2nd Amendment rights." - Rita Schweitz, co-chair of the Colorado Coalition Against Gun Violence in a statement regarding the ruling that Colorado's gun laws be upheld.

4. "The other bills, we can debate whether they were good policy, but magazine limits seem to offend people. It punishes law-abiding citizens. It has been such a point of controversy, (that) if anything is repealed, it would be that one." - Colorado State Sen. Chris Holbert, on a bill to repeal the 15-round magazine capacity limit which is state law, reported by The Denver Post.

5. "I don't understand the Republicans' thought process. They have corrupted the Second Amendment. I don't believe my sister's right to her life is superseded by anyone's right to dangerous weapons. Our objective here is just to save lives." - Jane Dougherty, resident of Littleton, Colorado whose sister, Mary Sherlach, was murdered in Newtown, according to The Denver Post.

6. "If someone wants to transfer a gun within a family, or transfer heirloom guns or antique guns, why do they need to pay for a background check when it's a Second Amendment right?" - Janak Joshi, member of the Colorado House of Representatives.

7. "Our reaction is deep disappointment that we didn’t get a ruling out of it. Mr. Sternberg basically wants to have clarification on the state law, and we are hoping that the ultimate ruling is that uniform state law will prevail. We are trying to figure out how to get to that point." - Attorney Anne Gill, who represented Aurora Gun Club member John Sternberg in his challenge to Denver's gun laws in which a lower court ruling upheld Denver's laws.
