From shopping to thrill rides, the area around the Creation Museum offers a number of destinations to pack in a little more fun around your visit. Here are seven:

SPECIAL: Prayer Changes Your Brain in 4 Amazing Ways

1. Kentucky Horse Park: Kentucky’s all about the horse, of course. The Bluegrass State’s horse-racing heritage is on display at Kentucky Horse Park. From horse shows, to riding trails and pony rides, to a museum that showcases the importance of the horse to all of human history, the park offers a horse of every color.

2. French Lick Resort: Most people know the resort, across the Ohio River in Indiana, for its gambling, but there’s more for all ages. Luxury hotels, dining from fine to fast, spas, golf, and even a year-round KidsFest in which the activities change with the season round out the package.

3. Wildwood Inn and Tropical Dome: In addition to the family-friendly, family suites available at Wildwood Inn and Tropical Dome in nearby Florence, the resort advertises a tropical dome and heated pool, waterfall spa, and game room for kids.

4. Newport Aquarium:
Newport on the Levee is an area of shops, restaurants, game arcades and more atop the levee overlooking the Ohio River in Newport, Kentucky. Major features there include the Newport Aquarium, a multiplex movie house, and Ohio River rides on customized “ducks” based on the famed amphibious trucks of World War II.

For a stroll across the Ohio River, there’s the Purple People Bridge leading into downtown Cincinnati. You might catch an outdoor fine-art exhibit on the bridge. More restaurants and shops surround the Levee in downtown Newport.

5. Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay: This facility offers a thrill ride and water park experience just south of Louisville, Kentucky, inside the city’s Interstate loop. There’s also a children’s area. A little easier on the wallet than the big parks.

6. Great Wolf Lodge:
For just the water park experience in a rustic-looking resort, head for Great Wolf Lodge in Mason, Ohio, northeast of Cincinnati. It features the Wisconsin Dells-based chain’s usual mix of resort-style rooms, a water park, shops and restaurants.

7. King's Island: One of the premier roller-coaster parks in the nation -- and one of two Cedar Fair parks in Ohio, King’s Island is just northeast of Cincinnati off Interstate 71, about an hour’s drive from the museum. From big scream machines such as the Banshee and the Bat, to kiddie-sized thrills at Camp Snoopy, not to mention Soak City water park, it has something for everyone. Seasonal.
