Though the Creation Museum boasts a cafe and coffee shop, the discerning foodie might want to check out these nearby destinations for some gastronomic creations.

SPECIAL: Prayer Changes Your Brain in 4 Amazing Ways

1. Senate: Everyone knows Cincinnati’s home to the “cheese coney,” the little dog loaded with chili, cheese, onion, and mustard, but Senate, in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, takes that up a notch or three with a kennel of gourmet dogs.

2. Celestial Steakhouse: The steakhouse sits atop Cincinnati’s Mount Adams, and offers, along with its Kobe steaks, sea bass and desserts, a view of the Cincinnati skyline and the Ohio River.

3. Boca: Recently named the “Best Restaurant in Ohio” by Business Insider, Boca offers a contemporary take on classic Italian dishes. In the northeast Cincinnati suburb of Norwood, Boca was called by USA Today, “A trendy, rather upscale place with a vibe all its own.”

4. Marx Hot Bagels:
Want a bagel to go? Marx Hot Bagels on Kenwood Road in Cincinnati goes way beyond the bagel with a schmeer. “Jalapeno, chocolate chip, or tropical fruit bagels are among the treats you'll encounter, along with generous servings of flavored cream cheeses, eggs, and PB&J,” says USA Today.

5. Montoya’s Mexican Restaurant:
Looking for Mexican fare? Montoya’s Mexican Restaurant in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, just a few miles east of Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport, offers food that’s “fresh, simple and reasonably priced,” and was voted Northern Kentucky’s Best Mexican Restaurant for 2014 by readers of Northern Kentucky Magazine.

6. Colonial Cottage: There’s Kentucky Fried Chicken, and then there’s Northern Kentucky’s best fried chicken, as voted on by Northern Kentucky Magazine readers -- and that’s Colonial Cottage in Erlanger, just east of the airport. Crispy coated fried bird is “ the comfort food in which we specialize,” owner Matt Grimes tells the magazine.

7. Cincinnati Chili:
Cinnamon- and chocolate-seasoned, and served over spaghetti with some combination of beans, cheese, onions, and red sauce, Cincinnati Chili is “the unofficial grub of Cincinnati,” according to the What’s Cooking America website. It’s fought over in the Tri-State and sneered at everywhere else. You can try a plate at famous chains such as Skyline or Gold Star, or hunt down one of the many local “chili parlors” in and around Cincinnati.
