Colloidal Silver: Popular Natural Treatment Instead of Antibiotics

By    |   Tuesday, 15 September 2015 04:38 PM EDT

As more people turn to natural treatments, one of which is colloidal silver supplements, a larger divide emerges between those who argue for and against them.

Many proponents of colloidal silver argue it can cure nearly anything, and Underground Health Reporter says the supplement has been shown to change cancer cells back to normal and kill bacteria, virus, yeast, and molds within four minutes.

Most commonly colloidal silver is trumpeted to boost an individual’s immune system to better fight diseases. In cases of AIDS-related pneumonia, Natural News cites a report that says silver could be an alternative to help get an individual feeling better.

Specifically, as concerns of antibiotics becoming ineffective grows, many turn to the silver supplement to strengthen themselves from and treating colds and infections.

A study at Brigham Young University showed colloidal silver to be a possible alternative as it fared as well as penicillin and other antibiotics in testing.

“The data suggests that with the low toxicity associated with colloidal silver, in general, and the broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity of this colloidal silver preparation, this preparation may be effectively used as an alternative to antibiotics,” microbiologists David Revelli and Ron Leavitt wrote in their report, according to Deseret News.

Harvard reports, however, have shown that silver is not safe or effective for any sort of disease.

In 1999, the Food and Drug Administration targeted marketers that claimed the supplement benefited the immune system.

Natural News posited, however, the FDA may be protecting the antibiotics companies who would lose out if people started to turn to natural means of protecting themselves by looking at other businesses or making their own homemade formulas.
